1.2.1 is the same as 1.2 except it has support for the iPhone and iPod touch when running iOS 4.0. I hope this is useful to you all.

Edit: It's now a few days later and while my developer account with Apple agrees with the email I got, that 1.2.1 is live and has been for days, I have yet to be able to get 1.2.1 from iTunes. I'm working with apple to get this resolved, I will let you know when it has been taken care of.

Well at least apple has sent me an email saying this is live and available. I haven't seen it show up on the store yet however.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a very promising app. The main thing it's missing that would make me buy it is the ability to upload files to the folder via wifi like CloudReader or GoodReader do. Instructions for GoodReader:

I've used this and its a very handy way to get files across without having to deal with itunes (especially if you're out and about and aren't near your itunes machine).
Extra points for the "Professional" transfer mode that lets you map a folder to it and use drag/drop.
After much back and forth with Apple, they have finally straightened out the issue with Folder being a universal app. They never did say what was wrong, but it was on their end. You should now be seeing the 1.2.1 update live in the app store now.

I would love to do something like that. Time is my enemy, this is not trivial to write. I have been offered the opportunity to add dropbox support to Folder, would anyone be interested in that?
I'd definitely be interested. I have to admit, though, once I realized that dropbox can do "open with", I haven't really needed Folder. But I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it supported wifi transfer, as uploading something to dropbox, then downloading it from dropbox can take forever (especially for this 30 meg pdf I was working on). I also think dropbox is limited in what it can open a file with, rather than what appears to be an unlimited "open in..." option in Folder.
ReplyDeleteBeing a programmer, I hear you about not having the time. On the plus side, you might actually see a decent amount of sales increase if you add this feature. Might be worth it. The wifi syncing fills a big gap of always having to attach the iPad/iPhone to your computer to sync stuff. You can't really do that when you're out and about and wanting to get a file from another person. It's also really helpful for vacation or getting a file from any computer other than your main one.
I looked around and found a few apps that are similar that do have wifi syncing, like Folders Pro. But they appear to be mostly about hiding porn on your iphone, so they don't support things like "open in".
Hope you find some time in the future. If so, and you remember, drop a line on this thread and it will email me. It'll be worth at least $1. Well, minus Apple's cut. :D
Is there any way to place a file(e.g. .PDF) viewed on the iPad Safari or attached in an email on the iPad directly into the Folder?

ReplyDeletein mail you should be able to tap on a PDF to preview it and then in the top bar there hould be an option to send it to folder. I don't know if you can do it in safari. I hope that helps.
