Update in progress

Thanks for visiting Folder's support site. I'd like to address some confusion that has been asked about.

First, when you initially start folder, your folder is empty. This is normal until you place something in your folder. The next version of Folder will show a message to you when your folder is empty. If you need to add something to your folder you can connect your iPad to iTunes and do so in the apps tab.

Second, there has been some confusion regarding some applications not being able to open a file even though the user expects this to work. If you have an instance where a file isn't opening in another program please email us about it and we will look into this for you.

Third, we will be adding an edit button for deleting files in the next version. Currently you can swipe your finger across a filename and a delete button will appear on the right. This works fine, but an edit button will help make this more clear.

Finally we have been considering adding an email option for files in folder. If you would like to see this please let us know.

Any additional feedback is welcome. Thanks again for using folder!

  1. Is there any way to sync entire folders through iTunes? I purchased Folders because I think it could be very useful, but I have hundreds of files and subfolders I want to add to my iPad. Is there no way to do this? Adding files one at a time is very cumbersome. Thanks!

  2. Hi Cogitoergomac,

Currently there is no way to do this, apple has chosen to make this a flat directory. I have considered adding zip support so you could unzip files and have a directory tree inside the app. I won't make any promises, but that is on my radar. Thanks for the suggestion!

  3. I purchased yor app ... In it's description you say one can send files directly to folder on the iPad. But I read here that is not possible and it is maybe a later addition ... Don't you think you should change your description on iTunes to the real abilities? The app does do well to just transfer files to it on iTunes -- but I really hope you make it do what it promised. Thanks.

  4. Hi James,

I'm not sure I understand your concern. I and many others have been able to send files to folder from any program which supports sending of files. Apple has made this so that both the program sending the file and the program receiving the file both have to be set up to do each piece on both ends. So if one program is not set up to send files to other programs then you obviously can't send files to Folder or anywhere else. Likewise, if an app is not set up to receive files then Folder won't be able to send files to that app. I hope that helps clear up any confusion. Happy to explain more if I'm not properly answering your question.

  5. For anyone following this blog, the update is nearly complete. I have added a preview option by request, but I'm having some difficulty with movies and audio working with that. That is the last piece before the update. I'll let you know more soon.

  6. It took me a minute, but I figured out how to transfer files from my PC to my iTouch using iTunes. No problem.

It seems like I should be able to go the other way: create a file on my iTouch and use iTunes to transfer it back to my PC. So far I don't see a way to do that.

  7. You can do this, but Folder does not allow you to create files. However, if another app on your iPod touch allows you to send files to other apps, you can send them to Folder and then get them on your PC that way. For example, in mail you can send PDF documents to Folder and then sync them as normal. I hope that helps answer your question.

  8. Folder is not coming up as a file sharing app in my iTunes? How do I fix this?

  9. Hi Rebecca,

I'm not sure what would cause this. Make sure that you are using the most updated version of iTunes. Try quitting and restarting iTunes, disconnecting and re-connecting your device. Also in rare cases I've had my computer need to be restarted in order to properly communicate with my phone. This may be a development tools thing but you can try what I do here -- rebooting. If all that fails you could try deleting the app and re-downloading it.

    Let me know what happens!

  11. I bought your app because I want to circumvent the problem Windows users have in trying to get iPhone recorded videos off their phone and onto their computers. For some reason larger video of more than 3 minutes won't transfer to the pc properly. How do I access my iPhone photos folder when in iTunes so that I can copy specific video files to the "Folder" app? I can't see how to do it. Thanks

  12. Hi Henry,

I think I understand the problem, but am not sure of how to help. In order to transfer the files to your computer you will need to be able to transfer files on your device from the video/photos app to Folder and then transfer them from folder to your PC. But it's a catch-22 in that you need access to the files on your PC to transfer them into folder via iTunes, and that is the problem you are trying to solve. I know that the photos app does not allow you to send files (other than via email) to other applications. I will do some looking around here. It's possible that I could try and access the camera roll and get these files, but Folder isn't doing that right now, so that doesn't help you much. Please let me know if you find a solution.
